I was the worlds worst to cut corners, I would only worm whenever my dogs showed signs of worms, i learned a valuable lesson whenever i lost a couple hounds to worms,my friend and hunting partner Joey, tried to tell me prevention, prevention, prevention, dont wait until they show signs put yourself on a monthly worming schedule and stick to it, and don't cut corners on the wormer you use, get a good quality wormer. Here at SMOKINRABBIT we like to change up ever couple of months switching between NEMEX2, STRONDGED T, AND 2XS, the strondge t can be purchased at your local vet at a very affordable price, in my opinion these are probably the best on the market. For tapeworms we were using NO MO but the animal rights committee pulled it from the market because you had to fast your dogs for 12 hours prior to treatment, i am now experimenting with SAFEGUARD. UPDATE**UPDATE* A special thank-you to MRS. LEFEVER, for her recommending the vet prescribed DRONTAL, our dogs are looking better everyday, this pill works wonders on tapeworms as well as others,,again thank you
Flea and tick prevention is very important for the overall health and appearance of your hounds, here at SMOKINRABBIT we dip our dogs monthly in LINTOX HD, more frequently in the warmer months. I have experimented with TriForce Flea & Tick,it starts to work on dogs and cats in as little as 1 hour. TriForce kills fleas, their larvae and eggs in one easy treatment. The flea control can also be used to remove ticks and mosquitoes. Now don't get me wrong, i like the TRIFORCE, but the main advantage with LINTOX HD, to a middleclass worker like myself, is that 1 mixing and it can last through 1 summer, we use the dip designed for swine, 1 pint mixed with 30 gallons of water, if properly stored can last up to a year. the results are unsurpassed. We also wash our kennels out with clorox monthly, this also helps repel fleas and ticks not to mention making the concrete floors look new again, and also keeps the hounds nails short and feet in good condition.
We have changed our protocol on vaccinating our pups. While surfing the web looking at vaccination schedules, i decided to switch to the one that was suggested by THE CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION, and it is as follows
